El Paso couple arrested after drugs found in home when they reported break-in, shooting to police
UPDATE: Police on Monday arrested a couple on felony drug charges who had claimed to be the victims of an attempted west El Paso home burglary last week.
34-year-old Treavon Rashad Wilkins was jailed Monday on $10,000 bond and 21-year-old Berenice Frayre was jailed on $5,000 bond; the pair are charged with possession of over four pounds of marijuana.
Wilkins was shot and not seriously wounded Friday night by a individual he claimed was an intruder at the home in the 600 block of White Cliffs. But investigators said Monday they had determined his claim was false, but didn't elaborate.
"No charges have been filed on the shooting, and the investigation continues," a police spokesman said, noting that officers recovered a handgun at the scene.
Police said the couple attempted to hide the drugs that had been in their home at the time of the shooting by placing the marijuana in a vehicle.
