Trial scheduled for man accused of murdering his mother in their Upper Valley home
Update (October 17, 2024): The October 21 trial date has been canceled and rescheduled for December 9, 2024 at 8:30 AM.
Update (October 3, 2024): Jake Bean remains in the El Paso Jail Annex on a $510,000 bond. Bean's jury trial is scheduled to start October 21, 2024 at 8:30 AM.
Update (July 12, 2023): ABC-7 has obtained court documents detailing the moments before 31-year-old Jake Bean allegedly shot his mother.
The affidavit states, Police officers arrived at 6201 Strahan Road. at 6:25 p.m. on July 6th and found Jake Bean on the floor unconscious along with his mother, Tracy Bean with a gunshot wound.
Police officers then proceed to get a statement from the father, James Bean, who said his son shot his wife.
Mr. Bean provided at statement to police, explaining that earlier in the day, he noticed his son, Jake walked into his workshop at their home and was drunk by the way he was speaking.
Mr. Bean then told police that this was the norm for this son to be drunk and violent toward him.
At one point during the interaction, Mr. Bean noticed his son had a revolver in a holster on his hip.
Mr. Bean informed police that his wife had just came home after being gone for most of the day.
Mrs. Bean entered her husband's workshop and began to argue with her son who then pulled out his revolver and pointed at her.
Mrs. Bean then attempted to take the gun away from her son, at which point, Mr. Bean notices his son pulling on the hammer of the revolver and releasing it several times till the revolver is fired, striking Mrs. Bean in the torso.
Mrs. Bean falls face first on the ground and Jake proceeds to point the revolver at her back, according to Mr. Bean.
At this point, Mr. Bean believed Jake was going to shoot her again and then grabbed the revolver from him. Mr. Bean then restrained Jake until he passed out.
Jake Bean was taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.
Police state, that once he was released from the hospital into police care, he asked multiple times, "I didn't kill my mother did I?"

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Police Department says officers received a call reporting a shooting on Thursday, July 6 at 4:25 p.m. in the 6200 block of Strahan Road.
Officers found Tracy Bean, 59, with a gunshot wound.
Her husband had called police and Crimes Against Persons detectives say the shooting happened during a struggle for a gun between Bean and her son Jake Bean.
Tracy Bean died from her wounds and police arrested Jake Bean and charged him with murder.
He is in the El Paso County Jail under a $650,000 bond.
