Trial date set for teen accused of murdering 14-year-old Julia Worthington

Update (October 2, 2024): Avila remains in jail on a $1,200,000 bond.

Avila's jury trial is scheduled for August 8, 2025 at 8:00 AM.


EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Police arrested and charged the man who officials say killed 14-year-old Julia Worthington.

Suspect Arrested

Officers obtained a warrant for the arrest of 18-year-old Angel Avila on November 16, 2023. They charged him with Capital Murder.

The U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force picked him up and booked him on a $2,000,000 bond.

Avila is also accused of killing 19-year-old Eliel Omar Bultron Hernandez and injuring three other teens.

Vrbo Homecoming Party

The deadly shooting happened at a Montwood High School homecoming party hosted at a Vrbo rental property on September 17, 2023. The house is located at 12300 Tierra Inca Drive in Far East El Paso.

For weeks after the party, Crime Stoppers of El Paso asked for help identifying Avila.
