Drunk driving simulation held at Coronado High School

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)--BorderRAC held a Shattered Dreams drunk driving simulation event Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Coronado High School. There was a mock crash scene and there will be a mock memorial service on March 27th at 9:00 AM for the mock crash fatalities at the Coronado High School Fine Arts Building.

It's a two-day school-based event that promotes responsible decision-making among high school students regarding underage drinking and impaired driving. The simulation involved the dramatization of an alcohol-related crash on or near a high school campus, complete with police and EMS response, emergency room treatment, family notifications, and the arrest and booking of the driver.

The "Shattered Dreams" simulation moves to various high schools around El Paso, teaching students the importance of avoiding alcohol, especially when driving. Dr. Angela Reyna, Coronado High School principal said "We wanted to show our seniors here at Coronado High School, the importance of making good decisions when it comes to driving. And a good statistic to keep in mind is that every 15 minutes a teenager dies due to underage drinking."
