El Paso Police identify person who died in fiery van crash on Loop 375

Update (July 2, 2024): El Paso Police just identified the driver, who died in the fiery crash, as 69-year-old Jesus Manuel Huerta.

Investigators say Huerta was driving east on the loop when, for an unknown reason, he drove onto the median between the Midway off-ramp and the highway. He slowed down but still crashed into a light pole, police say. The van then caught fire.

"Huerta had a BAC of .188, therefore alcohol was a contributing factor in this collision," a police spokesperson stated Tuesday.

This is the 33rd traffic fatality of the year, compared to 37 this time last year.

TxDOT posted an alert about a vehicle on fire about 3:26 p.m. Sunday.
