ABC-7 at 5: Semi rolls over on US-54 onramp

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A semi truck rollover on the ramp from the Border Highway to US-54 North closed down the roads for hours while El Paso Police were on the scene.

The border highway onramp N is currently closed in both directions as a semi truck was hanging over the rail of the curved ramp early Tuesday.

El Paso Fire said the driver is safe and uninjured. The crash happened at 10:45 a.m., around the time when the strong winds started to pick up.

However, the cause of the rollover remains unclear as the investigation continues.

An officer onsite told ABC-7 that they're waiting for a tow truck. He also said the truck's container has electronic components.

EPFD and TxDOT were on the scene assisting.

The scene is now clear and eastbound and westbound lanes are opened, as well as ramp M.

Crews finally lifted the container up and scene was cleared around 4 p.m.

TxDOT told ABC-7 that a crew will be coming at 9 a.m. on Wednesday to clean debris and fix the guard rail which has a gap of about 100 ft.

ABC-7 will provide updates as soon as more information is released.
