9th grader killed in crash in Vado
Update (11:25 AM): The Gadsden Independent School District confirmed that one of its students, a 9th grader, was killed in this crash. The school district did not provide the male student's name. Read the school district's complete statement about the student's death below:
"It is with profound sadness that the Gadsden Independent School District shares the news of the passing of one of our 9th grade students over the weekend. His sibling, an 11th grader, is also part of our Gadsden High School community. We know this loss will deeply affect many students, families, and staff members.
Counselors and mental health support services have been made available to any student or staff member in need. Wellness room specialists and school counselors are ready to provide support and a safe space for those struggling with this tragedy. We encourage any student who may be in need to speak with a counselor or trusted staff member.
“Our hearts are broken,” said Travis Dempsey, Superintendent of Gadsden ISD. “We will stand beside our students, staff, and this family in love and support through this difficult time.”
The district will continue to provide emotional and mental health resources to all who need them in the days and weeks ahead."

Update: (9:38 PM) New Mexico State Police have confirmed two people have died as a result of the crash. No word on ages or other injuries.
VADO, New Mexico (KVIA) - New Mexico State Police are investigating a crash in Vado, New Mexico.
It happened about 6:50 p.m. along the 8100 block of Highway 478.
According to NMSP, a vehicle struck a light pole in the area and came to rest in the front yard of a residence.
There is no information on injuries or cause for the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
