Man charged with false report after sparking SWAT response in east El Paso

Update (September 5, 2025): El Paso Police arrested Tracy Robert Wright, 63, and charged him with discharging a firearm and false alarm/report after the incident that triggered a police response to the 11900 block of Paseo Del Rey Drive Thursday.
Just before 8:30 a.m., police officials say Wright called 911 to report that people were trying to break into his house. When they arrived, officers heard gunshots coming from inside the house.
Wright then told police that his nephew and other people tried to break in, and that he fired at the alleged intruders.
Officers then called in SWAT, Crisis Management Team, and Crisis Intervention Team. Investigators later found that Wright had fired a shotgun through the walls while no one was trying to break in. Police say Wright's nephew was out of town at the time.
Police officers recovered two shotguns and a pistol from inside of the house. They booked Wright into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a combined $6,000 bond.
Update (1:15 PM): El Paso Police Department officials say that officers entered the house and found no one inside.
"Police continue the investigation and scene is being broken down," the officials explained.
Update (11:44 PM): El Paso Police say the call first came in as a house burglary in progress. Now police believe that there is a subject barricaded inside of the house. Police say there could be up to three people in the house, but that there could also be no people inside of the house.
