Police identify bicyclist killed in hit-and-run

UPDATE: Police have identified the person who was killed in the collision as 52-year-old, David Carmine O’Conner.

According to officials, the Special Traffic Investigations unit responded to the 4600 block of Pershing to a collision involving an electric-assisted bicycle.

Investigators say that O'Conner was struck from behind and was thrown from the bicycle.

The driver that struck O'Conner did not stop to help and has not been identified.

O'Conner died from injuries he sustained in the collision.

Officials say that the investigation is still ongoing.

The El Paso Police Department is asking anyone with details to contact the department at 915-832-4400 or Crimes Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477 to remain anonymous.


UPDATE: The Special Traffic Investigators are now investigating the crash, that left one person dead early Sunday morning, as a hit-and-run.

Officials believe that the vehicle that left the scene to be a gray or silver car "possibly a KIA" with damage to the front grill area.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the non-emergency number at 915-832-4400 or to stay anonymous to contact Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477.


EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- One person is dead after a crash involving a vehicle and a bicycle early Sunday morning.

A spokesperson with the El Paso Police Department says it happened at 1:38 a.m. at the intersection of Pershing Dr. and Leeds Ave. in Central El Paso.

Special Traffic Investigators are on scene examining the details of the crash.
