Fire at Istanbul nightclub that was being renovated kills 29 people
ISTANBUL (AP) — A fire broke out at an Istanbul nightclub during renovations, killing 29 people. The club was closed for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and the victims appeared to be employees or people working on the renovations. The nightclub was on the ground and basement floors of a 16-story residential building on the European side of the city. The fire was extinguished later Tuesday. Istanbul Gov. Davut Gul says the cause of the fire is under investigation. Authorities have detained eight people for questioning, including managers of the club and one person in charge of the renovations.
