CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico -- The state of Chihuahua recorded its highest peak of new daily coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic with 109 reported on Wednesday.

Over half of those additional infections came from the city of Juarez, which had 56 new cases, health officials said.

That took the total caseload to 752 in Juarez and 1,247 for Chihuahua state. Roughly 25% of those confirmed cases have resulted in hospitalizations, the data shows.

The Ministry of Health said the latest modeling reflects that the northern region of Mexico is now at the top of the "plateau" of the pandemic.

There were also two more deaths in Juarez reported on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 165. In Chihuahua state it rose to 215 total fatalities.
