Sunland Park celebrates ‘Pink Day at the Races’
SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico - Sunland Park saw countless jockeys, t-shirts and an entire racetrack painted in pink on Saturday.
"I'm a breast cancer survivor and this is my way of giving back," said Jamie Zamora, the event coordinator. "It makes me feel good to know that maybe I can help one person."
The Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino celebrated 'Pink Day at The Park,' raising money for breast cancer awareness by donating proceeds to the “Stand With Estela Fund,” founded by by longtime ABC-7 anchor and breast cancer survivor Estela Casas.
"If we catch it early, it's fixable," Zamora said. "The earlier we can catch this, the better off we are. We can save more lives that way. Something as simple as a mammogram saved my life."
There was a silent auction and giveaways throughout the day. Click here to donate to the Stand with Estela Fund.
"Of course, it helps with several things: Gift cards, wigs, compression sleeves," said Casas.
"It's all so important," said Zamora.
