WATCH: El Paso celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with virtual mass during pandemic

EL PASO, Texas -- The Catholic Diocese of El Paso celebrated the Mass of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, honoring the Virgin Mary, on Saturday morning.
Bishop Mark Seitz presided over the virtual mass from St. Patrick Cathedral, which you can watch in its entirety in the video player above.
The Dec. 12 celebration, also known as El DÃa de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, marks the date in 1531 when the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego, an Indigenous peasant, to ask that a church be built on the side of a hill outside of Mexico City.
The date has been celebrated by Latino Catholics for hundreds of years.
In past years, the El Paso celebrations have included rosaries, mariachi bands and ministries with Catholics from neighboring Juárez crossing the international bridges to join in celebration.
But in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic along the border, this year's observance was purely a virtual affair.
