Investigators probe cause of central El Paso train derailment

MGN

EL PASO, Texas —  Investigators were working Monday to try and determine the cause of a Union Pacific freight train derailment in central El Paso.

Nine rail cars went off the tracks at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday near Missouri and Laurel streets.

“The cars that derailed were auto racks - rail cars that carry vehicles. All nine were empty. Four of the derailed cars are on their side. Five remained upright,” a Union Pacific spokesperson told ABC-7.

The train crew was not injured in the incident, authorities said.
