University Medical Center to open 2 stand-alone emergency departments in January
EL PASO, Texas - University Medical Center, for the first time in its 115-year history, will have two new satellite emergency departments located away from its main campus, one in east El Paso, the other in northeast El Paso.
The UMC Northeast Emergency Department on 4669 Cohen opens for business on Jan. 10. The UMC East Emergency Department opens for business on Jan. 24 on 1521 Joe Battle.
These new Emergency Departments will each have a host of services that are more comprehensive than what is found in the smaller emergency or urgent care centers found in the community.
Both will offer pharmacy services, imaging services, onsite trauma care and access to UMC's Level 1 trauma center and services.
Each of these new centers will service more than 90,000 El Pasoans, giving tens of thousands of families access to Emergency services 24/7/365, close to home, without having to travel to the main UMC campus.
Currently, limited care is available to families to these families that may not provide the immediate, high level of expertise and care UMC's Emergency Departments will offer.
Both of these areas of El Paso have growing needs for high quality emergency care that UMC can provide.
Each of the Emergency Departments is approximately 11,000 square feet, with ample parking available.
There are separate entrances for Patients & Ambulance, separate waiting & registration spaces, four "Fast-Track" Treatment Areas which will dramatically reduce the waiting time for patients, and seven treatment areas and one trauma/treatment area.
Full CT Scans will be available in each Emergency Department. This is a major highlight that will give patients a higher level of care than found at smaller urgent care centers throughout El Paso.
Both Emergency Departments will have a large contingent of multi-skilled staff ready to provide immediate care.
