Alamogordo zoo welcomes cute new arrival with birth of baby springbok

ALAMOGORDO, New Mexico -- The zoo in Alamogordo has a new baby animal that is sure to be a big attraction.

A baby springbok – an African antelope – was born this past weekend at the Alameda Park Zoo.

The baby boy took his first steps at 10:26 a.m. Saturday, about a half-hour after being born.

His parents are named Tinkerbell and Peter Pan and his other siblings are named appropriately Wendy and Rufio, both named after characters in “Peter Pan.”

The Alameda Park Zoo is holding a naming contest for the new baby on its Facebook page.

Alameda Park Zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The zoo is reminding people to remember to practice social distancing while visiting and its gift shop is limiting how many people can be in the building at one time. To learn more about the zoo, click here.
