Man accused of stabbing dog 29 times indicted by Doña Ana County grand jury
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- Doña Ana County District Attorney Gerald Byers said an indictment was issued against Dagoberto Jimenez by a grand jury. Jimenez is charged with two counts of extreme cruelty to animals.
On Dec. 15 of last year, sheriff's deputies responded to a fight between two brothers, which included 27-year-old Dagoberto Jimenez.
During the incident in the 9400 block of Pluto Road, Jimenez allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed a dog named "Gucci" 29 times.
Sheriff Kim Stewart described the violence as the "most egregious" act of animal abuse she's seen in her law enforcement career.
Officials said Jimenez was released by District Court Judge Richard Jacquez on a $2,500 unsecured bond with conditions of release.
"Gucci" survived from his injuries and earlier this week, the 6-six-year-old bull terrier left for Bayou Animal Services in the Houston area
