Las Cruces Police: Woman dead following pedestrian crash

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- Las Cruces Police officers responded to South Solano Drive near California Avenue after reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Police officers found a 38-year-old woman had been struck by an SUV.

First responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the woman did not survive, according to police.

The driver of the SUV remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The woman's identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

Witnesses at the time of the collision told investigator the woman was crossing Solano, and walked in front of traffic. That is when she was struck by the SUV in the southbound lanes of Solano.

Police say there is no marked crosswalk there and it was dark at the time of the crash.

Police say they do not anticipate any charges.

No other injuries were reported.
