Texas public health experts host webinar series on how to reopen businesses safely

EL PASO, Texas -- In an effort to help businesses owners, public health experts were joined by two El Paso business owners as guest panelists for a webinar series aimed at developing best practices for businesses of all kind to reopen.

"Reopen Texas: Return to Work the Right Way" is a webinar series hosted by the UT Health School of Public Health and the Houston Area Safety Council.

This week's webinar focused on the retail industry. Gesuina Legaspy, owner of a GAL Fashion, a women's boutique in west El Paso along with and Melissa Santos, financial analyst with Food City Supermarkets spoke with health experts on how the pandemic has changed the way they run their business.

“This is something that no one has dealt with trying to navigate this whole different world is something new for all of us," Santos said. "I think it was helpful for retailers who are going to open up and navigating these rules to ask questions and see what other people are doing.”

Dr. Kristina Mena, El Paso campus dean of the UTHealth School of Public Health, told ABC-7 the UT Health System is tasked with helping state officials "figure out when and how to reopen Texas safely."

"Not all companies and businesses operate the same way even if they're in the same industry," Dr. Mena said. "So each business owner needs to think about how they interact with each other and interact with the public in order to develop the best work place safe guards."

Next week's seminar focuses on the restaurant industry. Click here to learn more and register to participate. If you would like to watch Wednesday's webinar in it's entirety, you can view it below.
