ABC-7’s Stephanie Valle’s Borderland Crimes podcast wins prestigious regional Edward R. Murrow Award
EL PASO, Texas - An episode of ABC-7 anchor Stephanie Valle's Borderland Crimes podcast has been awarded a Regional Edward R. Murrow award. Region 6 covers stations in Texas and Oklahoma. El Paso is in the Small Market category.
The award recognizes news stories that uphold the Radio Television Digital News Association code of ethics, technical expertise and exemplify the impact of journalism as a service to the community, according to the RTDNA.
The podcast episode recognized is titled "Lured from the toy aisle: the kidnapping and murder of Alexandra Flores." It marks the 20th anniversary of Flores' tragic killing. The 5-year-old was kidnapped while her family shopped at Walmart the day after Thanksgiving. The killer, David Renteria, was sentenced to the death penalty. Stephanie's in-depth podcast includes compelling interviews with Alexandra's sister, the investigators who cracked the case and then-police chief Carlos Leon.
