County Commissioners discuss more “creative” ways to address migrant surge

EL PASO, Texas – On the day Title 42 was supposed to be lifted, regional leaders continued to grapple with how to handle an anticipated surge in migrants.

On Friday, a federal judge ruled the Trump era policy invoked at the start of the pandemic to help stop the spread of Covid-19 should remain in place.

The policy allows border patrol agents to return migrants to Mexico due to health concerns without a chance to claim asylum.

According to Breitbart, Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 22,000 migrants on the southwest border since the federal judge's ruling was announced.

Breitbart reports more than 9,000 of the weekend's apprehensions occurred in the Rio Grande Valley and Del Rio Border Patrol sectors.

El Paso County Commissioners began discussing preparations for El Paso just before noon Monday.
