Here’s what you need to know this Fourth of July holiday
EL PASO, Texas -- From safety tips to restrictions, and even where you catch catch a glimpse of fireworks lighting up the Borderland skies, here's what you need to know this Fourth of July holiday.
Firework restrictions
The use and sale of fireworks are banned within El Paso city limits. Offenders could face a fine of up to $500, according to the El Paso Fire Department. However, you can shoot them off in most incorporated areas of the county.
Aerial fireworks are banned in El Paso and Doña Ana counties.

Where to celebrate
if you can't decide where to go for the fourth, here are few celebrations you can head to to commemorate the nation's birthday.
Pop Goes the Fourth
- Located at Biggs Park in Fort Bliss
- Gates open 4 p.m, followed by a concert at 7:30 p.m. fireworks start at 9
- There will be food trucks and numerous inflatables for kids
- Also features a live performance from the El Paso Symphony Orchestra followed by the annual fireworks spectacular
- Open to the public
Ascarate Park fireworks
- Event begins 2 p.m.
- Enjoy food trucks, swimming
- Fireworks show scheduled for 9:20 p.m.
- Gates will close to incoming traffic at 8 p.m.
Wet 'n' Wild Festivities
- Wet 'n' Wild Waterworld kicks off their celebration at 10 a.m.
- Fireworks show will start at 9 p.m.
- Tickets are $38 for people ages 4 and up
The Rotary Club of West El Paso Parade
- Parade begins at 9 a.m. at the Western Hills Methodist Church located at 524 Thunderbird and will finish at Coronado High School.
The El Paso Del Norte Lions Club Parade
- Parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Hanks High School at the corner of Montwood and Lee Trevino drives and end at Album Park
Safety tips
The El Paso Fire Department says the biggest mistake people make during the holiday is mishandle fireworks and fire fighters want you to celebrate safely.
Here are a couple safety tips to keep in mind:
- if you're going to shoot off fireworks, do it outside in an area where there's no brush around.
- Have water or a fire extinguisher nearby.
- Make sure you never hold them in your hands or point them at someone
- Keep them away from children, even sparklers can be dangerous
- In case of an emergency, dial 911.
