Five Texas Department of Public Safety officers under investigation for response to Uvalde school shooting
The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for an independent review of some of its officers who responded to the Robb Elementary school shooting in Uvalde.
Two of the five officers have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the inspector general’s investigation, Texas DPS spokesman Travis Considine told ABC News. None of the officers involved have been identified.
The response to the shooting has been heavily criticized because officers waited more than an hour to overtake the shooter.
State Senator Roland Gutierrez says he's aware of five officers that have been referred to the state inspector general's office for review.
Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo was fired last month for his lack of leadership. He said he doesn't believe he was the commanding officer that day, however, an independent review determined he actually was in charge.
