CBP: Venezuelan migrant assaulted agent with flag pole during attempt to enter US illegally
UPDATE (4:15 p.m.): The incident along the Rio Grande began around 12:20 p.m. Monday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Officials say Venezuelan nationals protesting along the Rio Grande near downtown El Paso attempted to illegally enter the United States.
According to CBP, one of the protestors assaulted an agent with a flag pole.
CBP officials say agents responded with crowd control measures which include the use of authorized "less-lethal force PepperBall launching system."
Officials say the situation is ongoing.
EL PASO, Texas -- A confrontation between a migrant group and U.S. Border Patrol Agents was caught on camera Monday - showing agents pushing the group back after advancing towards agents.
The video, captured by Omar Ornelas, shows some in the group waving large flags; one a Venezuelan flag, the other a Honduran flag.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said there would be a statement sent out about the incident.
