EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection found 50 pounds of illegal drugs during two separate searches.

The first happened on February 3 when a 50-year-old man was crossing into the U.S. from Mexico at the Bridge of the Americas and was referred for a secondary inspection of his vehicle.

A non-intrusive x-ray showed a bundle containing 18.16 pounds of cocaine. He is a U.S. citizen and was arrested by CBP officers and turned over to authorities for prosecution

“Every drug seizure that a CBP officer makes is important,” said CBP El Paso Port Director Ray Provencio. “Stopping the flow of narcotics at the border helps keep our communities safe.”

On February 4, an 18-year-old man crossing into the U.S. at the Bridge of the Americas on a motorcycle was referred for a secondary inspection.

Officers discovered 32.8 pounds of fentanyl powder and 1.05 pounds of methamphetamine hidden on the motorcycle.

He was also arrested by CBP officers and turned over for prosecution.
