Man dies after pulling gun out during police investigation in Sunland Park
UPDATE: (7:06 p.m.) A man who pulled out a gun while police were responding to his residence for an intoxicated male was pronounced dead at the hospital after being shot by a Sunland Park police officer according to New Mexico State Police.
State police said SPPD officers responded to 113 Calle Diaz and found 42-year-old Leonardo Hernandez intoxicated. According to a release from state police, SPPD officers learned that Hernandez had been in a verbal argument with two people at his home.
According to the release, during the SPPD officers' investigation of the allegations, Hernandez pulled out a handgun. One officer then shot at least one round, which hit Hernandez. He was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
No officers were injured in the encounter
UPDATE: (9:04 a.m.) New Mexico State Police say one person was shot and killed by police overnight in Sunland Park.
NMSP also revealing the investigation is now an officer-involved shooting.

The shooting happened on the 100 Block of Calle Diaz.
Fire and medical crews are on the scene.
SPPD is investigating.
