Local group advocates for El Paso Climate Charter

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A local climate advocacy group went door to door Tuesday trying to garner votes for Proposition K, described as the "The first citizen-led piece of climate legislation in the state of Texas," by a website supporting the climate charter.

"What we're doing is knocking on doors, just trying to let people know what Prop. K is about," said Lorena Ramirez, Field Manager for Sunrise El Paso.

The group is a local hub of Washington D.C.’s Sunrise Movement, more famously known as the 'Green New Deal,' and worked with Ground Game Texas - a progressive advocacy group organizing ballot propositions for Climate in El Paso - to author Prop. K.

Leaders from Sunrise El Paso told ABC-7 Ground Game Texas handled more of the legal side of authoring Prop. K, while Sunrise El Paso handled the community outreach aspect.
