MLB “Play Ball” Weekend hosted hundreds of area children

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - The El Paso Chihuahuas hosted baseball and softball clinics for area children Saturday at Southwest University Park.

The clinics are part of the Major League Baseball's PLAY BALL weekend outreach program.

About 200 children from the southwest region participated and joined thousands of children who made up about 300 teams learning at the event's clinics worldwide.

El Paso children registered to attend the clinics and learn straight from Chihuahuas players skills in fielding, batting, and pitching.

"We are lucky to have 9 players and a couple of staff members under the direction of our manager Phil Wellman...dedicating and donating their time this morning to give back to our youth," said Andy Imenfeld, the Director of Promotions and Marketing for the El Paso Chihuahuas.

Major league baseball hosts events across the country to inspire the youth through activities and to learn some new skills. The organization's aim is to connect  youth from different backgrounds and providing access to the game
