3 people were shot inside a restaurant owned by ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star Kandi Burruss, police say
A “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star who co-owns a restaurant where three people were shot Friday night says she and her family are “truly saddened by the unfortunate events … (on) an evening that was meant to celebrate love.”
Police in East Point, Georgia, told CNN affiliate WGCL that a man went into an Old Lady Gang restaurant and targeted a man inside.
Two bystanders were also shot. All three victims’ injuries were not life threatening, the station reported.
The shooter escaped.
“My family and I are truly saddened by the unfortunate events that occurred at Old Lady Gang (OLG) Camp Creek, on the evening of February 14th, an evening that was meant to celebrate love, unfortunately turned into something quite different,” Kandi Burruss said on Instagram. “As African-American business owners, it has been our goal to invest in our community by bringing jobs, quality dining, and a positive experience to the greater Atlanta area; we hope that you know and understand that the acts of violence that occurred yesterday evening do not, in any way, serve as a reflection of OLG or its values.”
The Old Lady Gang restaurant is in a shopping area southwest of downtown Atlanta. It’s one of three locations owned by Burruss and her husband, Todd Tucker.
Brynae Kinsey told WGCL she was outside the restaurant when gunshots erupted, and someone ran out the door.
“I just heard her scream ‘Ahhh,’ and then I heard two pops. Pop, pop,” Kinsey said. “I just wondered what was going through his head for him to pop off like that.”
Police do not yet have a motive for the shooting, but believe it was an isolated incident. They are looking for the suspect, the station reported.
Before joining the reality TV franchise, Burruss was a member of the 1990s singing group Xscape and won a Grammy for co-writing TLC’s hit “No Scrubs.”
