65-year-old El Paso man killed when car is hit by speeding pickup
UPDATE, July 25: Police on Sunday identified the man killed in a weekend traffic collision as 65-year-old Perfecto Aispuro Beltran of El Paso.
Investigators said Beltran's car was struck by a speeding pickup truck as he was turning at the intersection of 3600 E. Yandell and 700 Copia in central El Paso about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The impact from the crash resulted in the pickup rolling over while dragging Beltran's car with it and forcing it into a parked car.
Beltran died at the scene, authorities said, while the 22-year-old man driving the pickup was injured and taken to a hospital.
Police didn't indicate whether any charges would be filed against the pickup driver, whose name wasn't released. They said the deadly crash remained under investigation.
Beltran's death was El Paso's 36th traffic fatality of the year as compared to 46 at this same time last year.
ORIGINAL REPORT, July 24: EL PASO, Texas -- A motorist was killed Saturday afternoon when two cars collided and then struck a third vehicle that was parked on a central El Paso street.
Traffic investigators were summoned about 3:30 p.m. to the deadly crash scene at N. Copia Street and E. Yandell Drive, where one of the three cars could be seen overturned.
There was no immediate word on what triggered the crash or whether any injuries had occurred in addition to the fatality.
Police asked drivers to avoid the area or expect traffic delays.
