UPDATE, Sept. 27: Police on Monday identified the motorcyclist killed in a weekend crash in the Lower Valley as 29-year-old Roberto Miguel Lopez Jr. of east El Paso.

Saturday's deadly crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 900 block of N. Zaragoza.

"According to witnesses, Lopez appeared to lean to one side and veered right. Lopez struck the curb, and the motorcycle continued traveling over the sidewalk and struck a rock wall. Lopez became separated from the vehicle in the crash and received critical injuries," police wrote in an incident report released on Monday.

Lopez later died while being treated at a local hospital; his was the 50th traffic fatality of the year in El Paso, compared to 55 at this same time last year.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Sept. 25: EL PASO, Texas — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday night in a Lower Valley crash.

It happened at Zaragosa and Cashew, where El Paso police summoned traffic investigators around 7:30 p.m.

Police said the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

The man on that motorcycle was rushed from the crash scene to a local hospital, where authorities said he died a short time later from his injuries.

Officers said Zaragosa in both directions was shut down between Cashew and Gerainium for investigators as they tried to determine what led up to that wreck.
