Family of El Pasoan killed by alleged drunk driver sues for $1M
EL PASO, Texas -- The family of an El Paso man killed by an alleged drunk driver is suing for $1 million.
Relatives of 67-year-old Guadalupe Ruben Ramos gathered with their attorneys and representatives of 'Mothers Against Drunk Driving' at the El Paso County Courthouse Tuesday to talk about the lawsuit.
In a press conference, the attorneys said they are filing a lawsuit against 37-year-old Vitalia Soto, and her employer, Harmony Biosciences LLC, for a million dollars in relief funds.
The 3-car-crash happened on the night of Aug. 18 along Interstate 10 and Hawkins.
According to police, Soto rear-ended Ramos's vehicle, pushing it into the rear end of another vehicle. Ramos died that night from his injuries; investigators say Soto was intoxicated and speeding.
Attorney Stephen Stewart, with the Stewart Law firm, said Soto's employer is liable for damages because she was driving a company vehicle.
Stewart also alleged that Soto has a poor driving record and the company was negligent in hiring an unfit driver to take the wheel in their car.
“This is a driver that should not have been in a company car, this is a driver that shouldn’t have been driving at the time, and we think that the evidence is going to very clearly demonstrate 100% of that,“ said Stewart.
“I love him, but he did the absolute best he could, and he deserves heaven and peace,” added Ruben Ramos, Ramos’ son.
ABC-7 reached out to a Harmony Biosciences LLC spokeswoman for comment, but didn't receive a response.
