Wrong-way driver killed in head-on crash along I-10 near Clint
UPDATE: Investigators on Thursday afternoon said a wrong-way driver was to blame for a deadly crash earlier in the day along Interstate 10 near Clint.
El Paso County Sheriff's deputies identified the wrong-way driver as Stephanie Montoya and said she died at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle - which was struck head-on by Montoya's car - was taken by ambulance by a local hospital for evaluation, deputies indicated.
Montoya was the 20th traffic death in El Paso County this year, compared to 15 at this same time last year.
ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said Thursday morning that one person was dead after a car crash along I-10 near Clint.
Deputies were called to the scene around 3:30 a.m. The two-vehicle crash happened along Interstate 10 west and mile-marker 39.
When investigators arrived, they found the driver of one vehicle dead at the scene due to injuries from the crash. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Sheriff's Office closed I-10 west at Clint to Horizon for several hours; it has since reopened.
