ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Record-breaking heat expected in El Paso through Thursday

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso is set to experience record-setting heat this week, with temperatures in the lowlands reaching the upper 80s to around 90 degrees through Thursday. The unusually warm weather is accompanied by dry conditions that will persist throughout the rest of October.

A dry, westerly flow from an upper-level high situated over northeast Mexico will keep the region warm and dry. Although there is some moisture south of the border in Chihuahua, it isn't expected to make its way to the El Paso area, leaving the weather largely dry.

Over the next few days, the high-pressure system will shift west toward Baja California, maintaining a pattern of dry air and increasing temperatures across New Mexico and far west Texas. With lowland highs reaching near 90 degrees, El Paso is poised to break several daily temperature records and could mark some of the latest 90-degree days on record for late October.
