60 mph winds, blowing dust push through Borderland

EL PASO, Texas -- It was a very windy and dusty Tuesday afternoon and evening across the Borderland.

A Pacific storm pushed through the area that brought high winds with it, along with gusts of up to 60 mph behind this storm.

The National Weather Service issued multiple warnings through the evening for the ABC-7 viewing area including red flag, high wind and blowing dust warnings.

Blowing dust and sand caused low visibility and made for dangerous driving conditions, triggering the indefinite closure of Transmountain Road.

High winds also caused property damage to a dollar store in Socorro, blew trees over in a Las Cruces park and blew a shed apart and caused other home and yard damage in northeast El Paso. (See it in the video player at the top of this article.)

The storm system was expected to exit the area late Tuesday night and be replaced by high pressure aloft, which should deliver several days of nice spring weather to the Borderland.
