East El Paso streets still flooded as storm damage is assessed
EL PASO, Texas -- As east El Paso residents on Monday assessed the damage from Sunday's powerful storms, city transportation officials said some several streets remained flooded and impassable.
City of El Paso Streets and Maintenance Department crews were pumping water from a number of flooded roadways and removing debris that washed up onto streets.
The following intersections were closed until further notice.
- Lockerbie Avenue at Oarkney Road
- Wedgewood Drive at Album Avenue
- Sims Drive at McRae
- Tony Lama Street at Merchant Avenue
- Orkney Road at Bayo Avenue

Meantime, residents on the east side were picking up the pieces on the day after the latest monsoonal heavy rains swept through the Borderland.
A pile of rocks stacked up on the side of Wedgewood Drive was all that remained of one family's 16-foot backyard rock wall, threatening their home.
“That was pretty unnerving, because of course, my wall is there also," neighbor John Cataldi said.
Cataldi said because the rocks from the disintegrated wall covered both northbound lanes of Wedgewood, he made some make-shift caution barriers out of buckets and reflective tape to warn drivers to be careful as they passed by.
Cataldi said his neighbors called 911 right after the wall fell, but the lines were busy with so many other emergencies happening during the storm.
The family that owned the home told ABC-7 they were shocked at the rock wall's collapse. They said maintenance had been performed on their wall to prevent such an erosion from happening.
