State Board of Education District 1: Democratic Primary Runoff Forum

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - ABC-7 hosted a debate for the Democratic candidates for the District 1 State Board of Education.

District 1 covers 30 counties in west, central and south Texas -- stretching from El Paso to parts of San Antonio.

The two democratic candidates are Dr. Melissa Ortega and Laura Marquez.

Dr. Ortega is a UTEP women's studies professor. Laura Marquez is the outreach coordinator for the Paso Del Norte Development Center's Early Childhood Intervention Program.

The winner of the runoff will face Michael Stevens, the winner of the Republican Primary.
