Man tells police he stabbed to death intruder trying to break in to northeast El Paso home
EL PASO, Texas -- A northeast El Paso man told police he stabbed to death an intruder late Tuesday afternoon who tried to break into the home he shared with his girlfriend, according to authorities.
The stabbing death, which was being investigated as a potential murder, happened in the 5800 block of Swallow Lane about 3:30 p.m., according to police Sgt. Enrique Carillo.
After the stabbing occurred, the man living in the home went to a nearby 7-11 convenience store and called police to report the incident, Carillo said.
The man was taken into custody and considered a suspect, according to Carillo. He said there was no doubt the man was responsible for the stabbing, but it hadn't yet been determined if he would face charges.
It was unclear whether the dead man was known to either the suspect or his girlfriend, both of whom were home at the time of the incident. Police did not release any of their identities.
Investigators said they considered both the home and the 7-11 store crime scenes and expected to work into the night to gather possible evidence in the case.
