With the latest appreciation of the Mexican peso, how it affects the borderland?

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- On Tuesday, the Mexican peso ended its good streak against the dollar. It had ten consecutive weeks of good appreciation.

Last Wednesday, the peso traded at the strongest level to the dollar in almost three years. The value of one U.S. dollar was 18.94 pesos, according to data from Mexico's central bank.

Back in 2020 is when the peso came close to that, dropping below 19 pesos. Its value was 18.91 in February 2020 before the pandemic started.

This rise in value has come since the end of 2022 when Borderland residents started seeing new exchange currencies at the exchange houses in Juarez.

The latest chance of exchange rates has also impacted some vendors in the streets of downtown Juarez who sell their products in dollars.

ABC-7 spoke with a "luchadores" masks vendor who said since the exchange rates started dropping, customers now want to pay in pesos rather than dollars.
