Retailers Hope Cyber Monday Better Than Black Friday

EL PASO, TX — Buy one, get one free, e-mail campaigns, and one day sales are just a few of the deals that online retailers hope will lure in the shoppers this Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday, which is the Monday after Thanksgiving, is supposed to be the internet’s equivalent to Black Friday.

Friday’s sales were steady, as high as retailers predicted – but still low considering they lowered expectations for the holiday shopping season.

This year, the National Retail Federation expects more than 80% of online retailers will be offering bargains to the more than 72 million Americans expected to log on during their lunchtime from their work computers.

The predicted number of online shoppers is higher than last year; retailers hope that will boost sales, which have only increased 1% since this time last year.

Experts say the economic downturn will impact what consumers buy this holiday season, leading to more sales of clothing and other practical items.
