Bond Between UTEP’s Vittatoe, Father Strengthened After Mother’s Death

UTEP quarterback Trevor Vittatoe still keeps a little shrine in his bedroom in El Paso. It includes treasured pictures of his mother, Kari. Also, a laminated copy of the obituary.

Recently, though, his thoughts turned to his father, former San Antonio high school basketball standout Vern Vittatoe.

Talking about how honoring his mother has always served as an ?underlying motivation? for his drive to succeed, Trevor also discussed some other deep-seated feelings.

?My dad has never given up on me,? Trevor Vittatoe said. ?I’ve had ups and downs out here. I haven’t always been perfect. But he has always been a big part and a big inspiration for everything I’ve achieved here.?

Vittatoe, a four-year starter for the Miners, is on schedule to rewrite the major UTEP career passing records in coming weeks.
