Associated Press

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Ugandan opposition figure Kizza Besigye was charged with possession of a firearm illegally and soliciting for military support when he appeared in a military court four days after he went missing while in Kenya while on a book launch. His wife claimed he had been kidnapped. Besigye, who was remanded in custody to Dec. 2 and denies the charges, is a fierce critic of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and has on previous occasions been arrested and assaulted. The government has not commented. Kenya’s foreign affairs permanent secretary said Kenya was not involved in any incident involving Besigye.
