520-Acre Riverfront Tract To Be Added To Big Bend State Park

A riverfront tract may be added to Big Bend Ranch State Park, expanding it by 520 acres along the Rio Grande River.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved the purchase of roughly 520 acres in Presidio County, which is the last section of privately owned riverfront property on an approximately 10-mile stretch of the Rio Grande.

The Tapado Canyon tract is considered one of the most important privately owned in-holdings remaining within the 310,000-acre state park, the largest in the state. The park was acquired by the state in 1988.

The river tract, which already has trails providing access to scenic Tapado Canyon, is known for its gorgeous views and recreational value, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission said in news release.
