SWAT situation ends peacefully in west El Paso

The last street left of old Smeltertown was blocked off Tuesday night when a SWAT situation unfolded in the area.

This happened a little after 10 p.m. on San Marcos street, which is just off Executive Center Blvd. by the remains of the ASARCO site. El Paso police tell us it began with a domestic disturbance call between a man and another unidentified family member.

When police arrived on the scene, we are told a 50 year old man barricaded himself in a home and threatened to take his own life. Police say the man was believed to have weapons, so a SWAT and Crisis Management team were called out.

It was around 2 a.m. when the man came out peacefully. He was placed under emergency protective detention, and an order was taken for medical evaluation. A police spokesman says no criminal charges are being filed at this time, and nobody was injured during the incident.
