2012 story: Las Cruces radio station doing Orson Welles style broadcast for ‘end of the world’
A Las Cruces, New Mexico radio station is doing a 24-hour broadcast in the style of Orson Welles’ “War of the Worlds” in honor of the supposed Mayan end of the world today.
From midnight to midnight, 99.5 FM The Rocket is broadcasting different end of the world scenarios as part of their “Rock the Apocalypse Harder” broadcast.
For example, during the 6 a.m. hour a couple of men fought off an alien invasion but still got hassled by their significant others for not getting some diamonds and chocolate during their quest.
There are disclaimers during the broadcast that state the end of the world isn’t really happening to prevent the chaos that the original “War of the Worlds” broadcast created.

While the “Rock the Apocalypse Harder” broadcast is being done for fun, they also are doing it for a good cause.
