Community Champions: Coronado Marching Band
El Paso, Tx- The Thunder-Birds marching band has a little trick up their sleeves to stand out from the other bands during the 2014 U-I-L competition.
The band is known for it’s incredible sound and hard work,and that is why they’re our Community Champions sponsored by Southwest University.
Celeste Carmen a senior at Coronado she tells ABC-7 “there’s a moment right before we start playing you have all the nervousness but you look up at your band right before we start and it’s all gone for a second, you just look and oh my gosh we finally made it”
The Coronado Thunder-Birds marching band lives by the motto realize your potential and experience extremes. Carmen says ” it’s from our hard work that makes us look different …that makes us be like oh that is the Coronado band. We’ve gone through so much we just continue to keep working hard every year and we push for excellence”.
Members of the marching band say all of the early mornings and late nights have paid off.The band is on their way to the U-I-L state competition to compete with the top bands in Texas.
Garrett Cunningham says “when you have a type of passion that’s collective you can make awesome, magical things happen on the field”. The Thunder Birds marching band will compete at U-I-L state marching contest on Nov. 4th at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
