Mission Trail Express to launch in El Paso County

El Paso County is set to launch a new bus route Wednesday morning that will take riders through the historic Mission Trail.

The Office of County Commissioner Vince Perez said it is expected to offer an alternative form of transit to 85,000 residents.

It also offers tourists and residents a chance to tour the trail without having to drive.

The eight-mile route begins at the Sun Metro Nestor Valencia Transit Center in El Paso’s Lower Valley, located across the Ysleta Mission, to San Elizario’s Plazita.

The bus will make stops at the Socorro Mission, Licon Dairy and the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo’s Socorro Entertainment Center.

The service will run for free to the public through Labor Day Weekend.

El Paso County will use three 18-passenger buses for the routes.

The total cost to keep the Mission Trail Express running for the next three years is $1.3 million and about $1M is federally funded.
