Deliberations continue in Antonio Lopez trial
death could learn his fate tomorrow. the victim was a foster child under his care. the jury deliberated until late today in the trial of antonio lopez. abc-7’s jerry najera was in the courtroom for today’s proceedings — jerry: rick ashlie the jury deliberated for about 5 hours and by the end of the day they could not reach a verdict. last week the judge predicted this was going to happen saying it was a lot of information for the jury to take in. early tuesday the prosecution reminding the jury lopez confessed to killing baby jayla several times in 2012. prosecutors say he confessed after calling 911 he confessed to police a short time later lopez confessed to detectives and they say he confessed to inmate justin holmes while he was in jail. the defense in closing arguments reminded the jury holmes was a sex offender and cant be trusted. they also reminded the jury of abigail’s confession. abigail allegedly had a history of violent outbursts and allegedly confessed to another foster mother that she killed baby jayla in 2012. abigail was 11 at the time on the stand, she denied killing the child. lopez is being tried for capital murder , but jurors could instead find him guilty of murder, or several other lesser charges which don’t carry a mandatory life sentence like a capital murder conviction. deliberation will continue tomorrow at 9 a.m. and we will be there you can look for immediate updates on our facebook page or kvia.com. big wins in the race for president tonight. so far,
