App designed for the jet-setting student

A college senior, who has traveled across the globe, spent the last year creating a phone application for the jet-setting student.

Doris Llamas, CEO of the app ‘Awayys,’ will graduate from the University of Texas at El Paso this May with a degree in computer information systems.

Llamas has already embarked on a project similar to a full-time job that she said will change the way students travel abroad.

‘Awayys’ is described as a travel tool and social networking app for college students who travel, study and work abroad.

While they travel to foreign countries, users will be able to track others taking experiencing the same journey.

For example, Llamas said if someone is looking for a roommate for a semester abroad, they can connect with others also in search of a roommate.

Through a search engine, users can find people and places wherever they are traveling.

“You can filter results in a way that it’s never been done before,” Llamas said.

Llamas created the app, but quickly realized she needed help from students who also like to travel.

She recruited seven friends and family, most of them El Paso natives who study at universities like Harvard, University of Texas at Austin, SMU and Rice.

“We are really looking forward to representing this border and delivering something powerful for our users.” said Llamas.

The team of entrepreneurs is currently looking for potential investors.

The app website shows a countdown that on Wednesday read “Awayys” is set to launch in 10 days. It will be available for Android and iPhone users.

“I’m hoping this develops into a powerful platform that revolutionizes the way people connect, that brings the world together,” said Llamas.
