El Paso man involved in crash that kills four near Midland
An El Paso man was involved in a collision that killed four people in Midland County, Texas.
The crash involving two vehicles happened at about 6:32 am January 14, 2017, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Luis Rangel Junior, of El Paso, Texas, was driving a 2007 F-150 pickup east on State Highway 158 six miles southeast of Midland.
A DPS news release states it was raining and the highway was wet. Rangel’s pickup hydroplaned and collided with a 2004 Chevrolet Impala heading west on the highway.
The driver of the Impala, 36-year-old Kantrell D. Hires of Portland, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers inside the Impala, a 14-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, and a 17-year-old girl, were also pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said the 17-year-old girl and the 12-year-old boy were not wearing seatbelts.
Rangel Jr. was wearing a seatbelt and survived the crash, DPS said. He was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
No charges have been filed.
